Ye Olde Nags Head is a traditional 17th Century Coaching Inn, with 9 luxury en-suite letting rooms, a number boasting antique four poster beds and Spa Bath en-suites. The ground floor has recently undergone a stylish refurbishment and now offers the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional dining. The sympathetic refurbishment will continue on the first and second floor throughout 2014/15.
The present owners bought this 17th Century wonder in November 2007, with one very simple vision, to offer more than just a place to eat and drink. They wanted to create a happy and relaxing meeting ground for everyone to gather, from walkers and their dogs, friends and families to work colleagues and business people, whether it be for a special occasion with fun, laughter and tears or simply to sit quietly in a cosy corner and read the paper in front of a roaring open fire with a pint or glass of wine in hand!
To complement this heavenly oasis, we wanted to bring together and offer the finest fresh ingredients, drinks and creature comforts at an affordable price. Hand selected, cheerful, vibrant staff enhance the ambience and deliver what we hope is a great experience for you, our guests. our Chef produces stunning seasonal menus offering everything from traditional comfort food classics to table d'hort delights. Every item on our menu is freshly prepared to order, using a delicious combination of local and award winning produce. Chef also takes pride in offering a comprehensive choice of vegetarian dishes.
For many years, we feel that Ye Olde Nags Head went without receiving the tender loving care it truly deserved, and we hope that you are able to see that we are passionate about its future success.
Ye Olde Nags Head sits perfectly at the heart of the idyllic village of Castleton, widely regarded as the walking and cycling capital of the beautiful Peak District National Park, and offers a superb base for anyone wanting to take in the wonders and delights of the Derbyshire Peak District area.
Perched on a hill overlooking the Inn is the ancient Peveril Castle, which dates back to 1175. Now in the care of the National Trust, the Castle is open daily for tours and a visit is well recommended.
At the foot of the hill is the awe inspiring Peak Cavern, it's entrance still stained by the smoke of the cottages which once huddled beneath the shelter of it's arching roof. Visitors are guided deep beneath the Castleton hillsides to marvel at the vaults and formations. It was in an extension of this system that pot-holers recently discovered Titan, the largest cave in the UK.
Castleton is also the home of the famous Blue John Cavern. Blue John is Britain's rarest mineral, first discovered at Castleton by the Romans almost 2000 years ago. The Cavern is home to 8 of the 14 known veins of this beautiful mineral and it is said that the Blue John Cavern is the finest that can be seen by the general public in Western Europe.
Enjoy true hospitality at our traditional 17th Century Coaching Inn
